Janet Devlin releases new single ‘Daddy’, her third release of the year. Previously, she released the singles ‘Country Singer’ and ‘Emotional Rodeo’.
After reaching number four on the iTunes Country Charts earlier this year, the incomparable Northern Irish singer Janet Devlin is ready to release her upbeat new single, ‘Daddy’. Recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, the track delves into male societal expectations and gender role reversal in relationships, inspired by the concept of ‘sugar daddies’.
Mixing a traditional country-rock sound with her authentic and expressive vocal delivery, Devlin’s witty lyricism and fresh perspective deliver another empowering message. Speaking about the single, Janet shared, "As a woman on the internet, not a day goes by without some random person in my DMs offering to be my 'Sugar Daddy.' Which is fun in itself. But it got me thinking one day about how few 'Sugar Baby' roles there are for men. How 'daddies' are a dime a dozen, but there is a real shortage of trophy husbands. While playing this song on the road, I discovered that there are SO many men who would happily sign up for this. Men who are tired of being told to be the breadwinner. Tired of the societal expectations of being a 'man.' Men who would happily be a stay-at-home husband in exchange for play money and a man cave. As someone who lives a life outside of societal norms, I love taking those things and turning them on their head. I'm a firm believer in doing what makes you happy, not what the world tells you will make you happy." 'Daddy' arrives with a country sound, folk influences and some pop, with lively and electrifying vocals that take the track as it wants. Janet brings her wonderful vocals, immersing us in this country universe, transforming it into an anthem that makes us imagine listening to it on a road trip, with captivating guitar riffs and parts that make us sing along.
