THE WESTERN CIVILIZATION lança o novo álbum "Fractions of a Whole" sendo o segundo álbum da banda e o primeiro trabalho lançado em 2024. Antes, havia sido lançado alguns singles que fazem parte do trabalho.
The Western Civilization é um projeto colaborativo de Indie Rock com um elenco rotativo (pense em Broken Social Scene) de Austin, TX, liderado pela dupla de compositores Reggie O’Farrell e Rachel Hansbro. Eles tem lançado lentamente singles do novo disco, Fractions of a Whole, ao longo do último ano e finalmente lançaram tudo no dia 16 de fevereiro. The Western Civilization é um projeto totalmente DIY ao estilo que lembra Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse, Stars, Bright Eyes, Death Cab for Cutie, Postal Service, Of Monsters and Men, The National, etc... O novo trabalho explora um estilo indie rock com influências folk, a primeira vista para um gosto mais alternativo dentro desses gêneros com canções que vão crescendo e nos conquistando, uma experiência muito gostosa.
Para começar, tem a primeira faixa "Noctambulism" que inicia de forma lenta e suave, com sons de teclados no começo e riffs que vão traçando a canção. O vocal feminino e masculino começam como um dueto que traz harmonia na canção e deixa um clima bem suave, puxando mais para um folk. A faixa vai crescendo e então aquece nossos corações, com o vocal levando a canção para onde quer e nos fazendo cantar juntos, uma faixa sensacional para ouvir em sua própria companhia no fone de ouvido.
"Stitches" é a segunda faixa, com uma sonoridade gostosa na introdução, um som que tem batidas agitadas, somos levados nessa melodia que nos faz já conectar fortemente na canção. Com uma sintonia que nos encanta, uma vibe que passa uma atmosfera que levanta o ambiente, a canção mantém uma linha e uma melodia constante e crescente pelo vocal, com trechos que toca somente o instrumental para eletrizar a canção. O que nos encanta é a complementariedade vocal e o backing vocal ao fundo que nos gruda na canção.
A terceira canção "Bible Verses for Kids" chega com mais força, uma canção agitada dentro de um indie rock que cresce gradualmente e começa com um conjunto de vocal que traz uma harmonia para a faixa com riffs de guitarra como em um indie rock. A faixa tem um cunho de protesto contra talvez a hipocrisia religiosa, acaba se tornando versos para crianças espirituais. Os ouvintes sentem a energia forte e que nos faz cantar junto no coro, uma das melhores faixas do álbum.
"If You're Lucky" é a quinta canção, com uma pegada mais country, rápidos riffs, se torna uma canção gostosa com o vocal forte da cantora que faz um backing vocal que guia o vocal masculino, trazendo um contraste mais agudo. A pegada country folk com batidas mais caóticas levam algo mais futurista para essa vertente em alguns trechos. A canção fica eufórica e agitada ao ponto de nos eletrizar nesse folk que é surpreendente e busca diferentes ambientes que são maravilhosos na temática da canção, em um final que traz aquela sensação de esperança e que tudo é possível.
"Fool" é a sexta canção, com um início de riffs de guitarra, a faixa tem uma pegada indie rock ao estilo anos 2000, com batidas crescentes e uma escalabilidade sonora que nos cativa por dentro. Nesse dueto que é de tirar o folêgo com um ambiente místico com backing vocal que dão a sensação de vocais etereos e que não têm fim. Em uma visão temática de que talvez as coisas ruins praticadas não deixe o personagem ter uma boa noite de sono, talvez seja algo filosófico na música.
"The Snake and The Saint" tem um início bem folk com cordas dde violão sendo tocadas, uma leveza completa, depois a sonoridade cresce para um rock progressivo e então riffs de guitarra mais fortes e desconcertantes tomam conta da canção em uma sonoridade que nos faz imergir em uma atmosfera profunda, com uma tapeçaria liríca que parece ter alusões biblícas sobre alguém carregar os pecados de uma humanidade pecaminosa e que sangra, com o peso do mundo em suas costas e gritos bem suaves de "Hallelujah" em um indie rock com muita euforia e intenso.
"The Ocean's On The Rise" é a nona e penúltima faixa, com um folk bem suave e gostoso de ouvir, podemos ouvir as mudanças dos acordes, a faixa tem uma leveza única, com batidas suaves e lentas, somos levados nesse folk gostoso que tem uma letra marcante e forte, talvez estejamos perdidos e tomando remédios para buscar a sobriedade e sanidade, estamos talvez buscando por coisas que não sejam aquilo que pensamos que é de fato, talvez estejamos sem confiança e sem caminho para seguir, uma faixa bem reflexiva que nos faz pensar na vida, com uma energia forte e contagiante.
O álbum "Fraction of Whole" ainda conta com mais faixas que valem a pena conferir, ao total são 10. Um dos grandes trabalhos lançados até aqui nesse ano, o novo álbum de The Western Civilization chega com letras profundas, reflexões sociais, religiosa e individual, com faixas incríveis que nos leva na melhor experiência que o folk e o indie rock pode trazer.

THE WESTERN CIVILIZATION releases the new album "Fractions of a Whole" being the band's second album and the first work released in 2024. Previously, some singles had been released that are part of the work.
The Western Civilization is a collaborative Indie Rock project with a rotating cast (think Broken Social Scene) from Austin, TX, led by songwriting duo Reggie O’Farrell and Rachel Hansbro. They have been slowly releasing singles from their new album, Fractions of a Whole, over the last year and finally released the whole thing on February 16th. The Western Civilization is a completely DIY project in a style reminiscent of Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse, Stars, Bright Eyes, Death Cab for Cutie, Postal Service, Of Monsters and Men, The National, etc... The new work explores an indie rock style with folk influences, the first look at a more alternative taste within these genres with songs that grow and conquer us, a very pleasant experience.
To begin with, there is the first track "Noctambulism" which starts slowly and smoothly, with keyboard sounds at the beginning and riffs that trace the song. The female and male vocals begin as a duet that brings harmony to the song and leaves a very soft atmosphere, more of a folk vibe. The track grows and then warms our hearts, with the vocals taking the song where it wants and making us sing along, a sensational track to listen to in your own company on headphones.
"Stitches" is the second track, with a pleasant sound in the introduction, a sound that has agitated beats, we are carried away by this melody that makes us connect strongly to the song. With a tune that enchants us, a vibe that conveys an atmosphere that lifts the atmosphere, the song maintains a line and a constant and growing melody through the vocals, with sections that only play the instrumental to electrify the song. What enchants us is the vocal complementarity and the backing vocals in the background that glue us to the song.
The third song "Bible Verses for Kids" arrives with more strength, an agitated song within an indie rock that gradually grows and begins with a set of vocals that bring a harmony to the track with guitar riffs like indie rock. The track has a tinge of protest against perhaps religious hypocrisy, ending up becoming verses for spiritual children. Listeners feel the strong energy that makes us sing along in the choir, one of the best tracks on the album.
"If You're Lucky" is the fifth song, with a more country feel, fast riffs, it becomes a pleasant song with the strong vocals of the singer who provides a backing vocal that guides the male vocal, bringing a sharper contrast. The country folk feel with more chaotic beats brings something more futuristic to this aspect in some parts. The song is euphoric and agitated to the point of electrifying us in this folk that is surprising and seeks different environments that are wonderful in the song's theme, in an ending that brings that feeling of hope and that anything is possible.
"Fool" is the sixth song, with a beginning of guitar riffs, the track has a 2000s-style indie rock feel, with growing beats and a sound scalability that captivates us from within. In this duet that takes your breath away with a mystical atmosphere with backing vocals that give the feeling of ethereal vocals that have no end. In a thematic view that perhaps the bad things done do not allow the character to have a good night's sleep, perhaps there is something philosophical in the song.
"The Snake and The Saint" has a very folky beginning with guitar strings being played, a complete lightness, then the sound grows to progressive rock and then stronger and more disconcerting guitar riffs take over the song in a sound that makes us immerse yourself in a deep atmosphere, with a lyrical tapestry that seems to have biblical allusions about someone carrying the sins of a sinful and bleeding humanity, with the weight of the world on their back and very soft screams of "Hallelujah" in an indie rock with a lot of euphoria and intense.
"The Ocean's On The Rise" is the ninth and penultimate track, with a very soft and pleasant folk to listen to, we can hear the chord changes, the track has a unique lightness, with soft and slow beats, we are carried away in this pleasant folk that it has striking and strong lyrics, perhaps we are lost and taking medication to seek sobriety and sanity, we are perhaps searching for things that are not what we think they actually are, perhaps we are without confidence and without a path to follow, a very reflective track that makes us think about life, with a strong and contagious energy.
The album "Fraction of Whole" still has more tracks that are worth checking out, in total there are 10. One of the great works released so far this year, the new album by The Western Civilization arrives with deep lyrics, social reflections, religious and individual, with incredible tracks that take us into the best experience that folk and indie rock can bring.
