Sharing the second single from her upcoming full-length album After the Masquerade (Spring 2024), “Mourning Tonight” (October 2, 2024 via Neon Moon Records) finds the Lethbridge, Alberta-based artist colliding vivid storytelling with new nuances country. Produced by Graham Lessard at Studio Bell at Calgary's National Music Centre, the track delivers powerful bass and shimmering synth layers beneath Miller's signature vocals, delving into a world of sounds that Miller has patiently waited to explore. Shaela describes the track like this: “I wrote Mourning Tonight while I was deeply distressed after losing a dear friend of mine. It's about the volatile emotions we can feel as we navigate complex feelings of sadness and sadness while juggling everyday tasks. When I started writing the song, the pace was very slow. When I came back to it later that night, I decided it needed to be an upbeat, danceable song. A great example of the unpredictable mood we experience during loss.”
