STILLWAVES traz a vibe dos anos 80 em álbum genial "Undiagnosed"

STILLWAVES lança novo álbum "Undiagnosed" sendo o primeiro trabalho lançado nesse ano. Antes, havia sido lançado os singles "It Still Burns" no ano passado e "Modern Fascist" em 2022.

"Undiagnosed" mergulha nos anos sombrios da pandemia e aborda temas próximos à banda, como divórcio e separação, amigos desanimados, falta de controle e lutas pessoais. O álbum apresenta o etéreo trabalho de guitarra do falecido Eric Pentz, que deixou o mundo muito cedo. A faixa-título Undiagnosed mostra apropriadamente seu estilo único, um estilo fortemente influenciado pelo trabalho do falecido guitarrista do Killing Joke, Geordie Walker.

Undiagnosed mistura melodias assustadoras com bateria robótica e batidas de sampler, proporcionando um som mais ousado do que o primeiro álbum da banda. StillWaves usa suas influências em suas mangas, mas também aspira a se aventurar em territórios musicais desconhecidos em seu próprio caminho. Escrito e gravado em Toronto, no Candle Recording Studio, o álbum foi produzido por Josh Korody (Metz, F*cked Up, Japandroids, Dilly Dally) e masterizado por Nik Kozub (Home Front, Shout Out Out Out Out, Priori, Khotin).

Para começar, tem a primeira faixa "It Still Burns" que tem uma introdução constante e nos leva ao universo EDM, avant garden, com batidas que nos envolvem e nos faz dançar, um som hipnotizante. Logo, com a entrada de riffs de guitarra que nos lembra os anos 80, os ouvintes sentem uma vive atemporal com o vocal que nos leva em um som eletrizante do começo ao fim.

A segunda faixa "Undiagnosed" tem riffs marcantes no começo, um arranjo ao fundo que parece ser uma viagem transcendental, rumo ao cósmico. As batidas são mais lentas, em uma melodia que nos leva nesse dark pop com o new wave. O refrão tem uma mudança de estilo, o vocal fica mais sólido. 

A quarta canção "Aurora, CO" tem batidas bem constantes e riffs que vão crescendo na introdução. É um estilo dark wave anos 80, um estilo cinematico que poderia estar em trilha sonora de filme que retrata a época. O vocal canta meio distante, meio disperso sobre a canção, deixa psicodélico  O instrumental é um absurdo de bom, nos contagiando em um ambiente etéreo.

"Scars Lie Below" é a quinta canção, com um sintetizador que gruda na mente, somos levados nessa vibe anos 80, a melodia e gostosa e bem agradável de ouvir, com um estilo dream pop. O vocal nos faz flutuar, com toda sua suavidade, uma combinação perfeita entre guitarra, que nos lembra algo de The Cure. É uma faixa marcante do álbum, com um refrão incrível.

"Somewhere I'm Happy" tem um estilo dark, uma introdução que nos conecta fortemente e já começamos a pensar sobre os lugares que estaríamos felizes. O instrumental é forte o bastante para a gente viajar em nosso interior é refletir sobre a vida. O vocal sólido carrega até o fim as últimas palavras dos versos, nos fazendo flutuar sobre as ondas da guitarra. O baixo faz um trabalho sensacional nesse álbum. A canção fica constante em um mesmo ambiente.

"Redlines" é a última canção. Com um toque genial do baixo, as batidas são agitadas, é como o punk rock dos anos 80. Na nossa mente pode vir algo que lembra "New Years Day" do U2. Claro, não é igual, apenas lembra. A guitarra ao fundo faz as transições entre os versos, somos levados nesse som que flui suavemente em nosso corpo, a guitarra incendeia a canção ao fundo. O vocal nos faz cantar junto, um grande hino para finalizar o álbum.

"Undiagnosed" é genial, é raro ouvir hoje um álbum que contemple a vibe dos anos 80, dark wave, o pop e o rock com o punk, algo que nos leva a uma viagem gostosa, em canções atemporais que têm uma história, um significado por trás delas.

STILLWAVES releases new album "Undiagnosed" being the first work released this year. Previously, the singles “It Still Burns” were released last year and “Modern Fascist” in 2022.

"Undiagnosed" delves into the dark years of the pandemic and addresses themes close to the band, such as divorce and separation, discouraged friends, lack of control and personal struggles. The album features the ethereal guitar work of the late Eric Pentz, who left the world too soon. The title track Undiagnosed aptly showcases his unique style, a style heavily influenced by the work of late Killing Joke guitarist Geordie Walker.

Undiagnosed mixes haunting melodies with robotic drums and sampler beats, delivering an edgier sound than the band's first album. StillWaves wears its influences on its sleeves, but also aspires to venture into uncharted musical territories in its own way. Written and recorded in Toronto at Candle Recording Studio, the album was produced by Josh Korody (Metz, F*cked Up, Japandroids, Dilly Dally) and mastered by Nik Kozub (Home Front, Shout Out Out Out Out Out, Priori, Khotin) .

To begin with, there is the first track "It Still Burns" which has a constant introduction and takes us to the EDM, avant garden universe, with beats that involve us and make us dance, a mesmerizing sound. Soon, with the entry of guitar riffs that remind us of the 80s, listeners feel a timeless feeling with the vocal that takes us in an electrifying sound from beginning to end.

The second track "Undiagnosed" has striking riffs at the beginning, an arrangement in the background that seems to be a transcendental journey, towards the cosmic. The beats are slower, in a melody that takes us into this dark pop with new wave. The chorus has a change in style, the vocals become more solid.

The fourth song "Aurora, CO" has very constant beats and riffs that grow in the introduction. It's an 80s dark wave style, a cinematic style that could be on a film soundtrack that portrays the time. The vocals sing a little distant, a little dispersed over the song, making it psychedelic. The instrumental is absurdly good, infecting us in an ethereal environment.

"Scars Lie Below" is the fifth song, with a synthesizer that sticks in the mind, we are taken with this 80s vibe, the melody is delicious and very pleasant to listen to, with a dream pop style. The vocal makes us float, with all its softness, a perfect combination of guitar, which reminds us of something from The Cure. It's a striking track on the album, with an incredible chorus.

"Somewhere I'm Happy" has a dark style, an introduction that connects us strongly and we already start thinking about the places we would be happy. The instrumental is strong enough for us to travel within ourselves and reflect on life. The solid vocal carries the last words of the verses until the end, making us float on the waves of the guitar. The bass does a sensational job on this album. The song remains constant in the same environment.

"Redlines" is the last song. With a brilliant touch of bass, the beats are lively, it's like punk rock from the 80s. Something reminiscent of "New Years Day" by U2 may come to mind. Of course, it's not the same, it's just reminiscent. The guitar in the background makes the transitions between the verses, we are carried away by this sound that flows smoothly in our body, the guitar ignites the song in the background. The vocal makes us sing along, a great anthem to end the album.

"Undiagnosed" is brilliant, it's rare to hear an album today that encompasses the vibe of the 80s, dark wave, pop and rock with punk, something that takes us on a delightful journey, in timeless songs that have a history, a meaning behind them.
